OUR TEAM
I have practised exclusively in family law since qualifying in 2010.
I am accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Family Law and as a Family Law Mediator.
I have experience in all aspects of family law, including divorce and separation, financial provision on divorce, cohabitation and child residence and contact issues, including relocation. I also deal with the negotiation and preparation of pre and post-nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements.
I regularly appear in the Sheriff Court in cases involving the welfare of children and financial matters following separation. I also have experience in dealing with cases in the Court of Session involving high net worth and more complex matters.
Where possible, I will always aim to resolve matters by negotiation and I regularly deal with such cases. I advise clients of the legal options available to them, taking account of their individual circumstances at an emotionally difficult time. I take pride in dealing with my clients efficiently and with empathy.
I am trained in collaborative practice and I am a member of Consensus Scotland, CALM and the Family Law Association. I am also a tutor on the Family Law Elective on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde.
The Legal 500 ranks Jane as a “Recommended Lawyer” in Family.

"Jane has been extremely professional throughout the process. Her communication skills are very good, consistently keeping me well informed and updated every step of the way. Jane took away any stress or worry due to her calm approach and being so informative on the process/law of the matter."
"Jane was gracious, thorough and very professional throughout. She is an incredibly efficient and personable individual who made the process of separation and divorce manageable in a very human and supportive way."
"Jane Blackwood took a considered approach throughout my dealings with Harper Macleod. She was able to communicate quickly and always provided high quality advice. She provided clarity and managed to do so during a significant period of stress for me. Her level of discernment and ability to pick out the salient points was exceptional. Jane provided verbal and written advice with the combined qualities of assertiveness and diplomacy. As such, I would recommend the firm to others in any matters relating to family law. I wish Jane well with her future. Thank you."
"Jane Blackwood was my family solicitor in connection with my divorce. Jane is an asset to Harper Macleod, she was supportive and professional throughout with sound advice, kindness and also super efficient. Jane gave me the strength to recognise the established protocols for someone in my situation when I was facing challenging times and it would have been easier to just walk away. Jane also gave sound advice regarding my needing to consider a new Will and kindly recommended a colleague within the firm - at a time when she was new to Harper Macleod and, in COVID times, wouldn’t have been familiar with others across the team - she considered my needs. I am very appreciative of all that Jane did in one of the most stressful times in my life."
"Jane made a ridiculous, over-complicated process appear very easy. She contacted us weekly with progress updates and what to expect next. She put us very much at ease with her efficient, but friendly manner."
"Jenny Smith works in a collaborative way to avoid adversarial correspondence. Alexis Harper is highly diligent and effective as is Jane Blackwood. Amanda Masson is robust in pursuing her client’s interests."
