OUR TEAM
Amy specialises in advising family owned and owner-managed businesses throughout Scotland in relation to a variety of corporate and commercial work, including mergers, acquisitions and disposals, business and owner succession planning, and director, shareholder and partnership matters.
Amy acts as lead legal adviser on transactions, where she maintains the client relationship, and project manages a multi-disciplinary team (including our Corporate, Employment, Property, Intellectual Property, Banking and Dispute Resolution teams, together with the client’s external financial and tax advisers) to meet transaction deadlines. Recent examples of Amy’s experience include:
- lead adviser to a private equity backed dental acquirer based in England, in relation to the acquisition by the client of multiple dental practices across Scotland. Amy’s relationship with this client has proven to be a key factor in this consolidator appointing Harper Macleod as its sole legal adviser on its acquisitions in Scotland;
- lead adviser to a family owned group of companies within the waste management sector on all corporate and commercial matters; and
- lead adviser to a variety of businesses in the marine economy, fintech, financial services and transport and logistics industries on investment, complex succession planning and transfer of ownership matters.
In addition to managing her legal workload, Amy has initiated and developed a successful business development initiative, and so also plays an important role in our Corporate team in terms of business generation.
Amy is fluent in Spanish, and will assist colleagues acting on behalf of Spanish speaking clients as and when required.
Amy was awarded “Highly Commended” in the Rising Star of the Year category at the Scottish Legal Awards 2019 and she is recommended in Corporate & Commercial by independent legal directory, The Legal 500.
"Amy Mackenzie continuously works in a calm and measured way and is exceptionally diligent. Amy is a brilliant asset to have on the team and her leadership qualities and guidance is second to none. She is always available for her clients irrespective of the time or day. I have worked with Amy on a number of transactions now and would highly recommend her."
"I have in fact recommended Amy to a number of friends in business since her approach is exactly what business is looking for. She is thorough, detailed, but concise and her ability to take a brief on the first pass [is] extremely impressive and reassuring. As with all professional services the issue of cost and transparency is an important element in eventual client satisfaction. Amy addresses this issue very early on in the discussions and explains the composition and gets it out of the way and allows focus to be on the issue."
"Amy has carried out some excellent work on behalf of my firm and its Directors over the past 2 to 3 years covering succession planning as well as mergers and acquisition topics. We have total trust in Amy's integrity and ability, therefore giving us full confidence in her & the firm's dealings in respect of the matter in hand at any time."
"Amy advised me over several months on how best to reset and future proof our company structure. Amy was patient (extremely!) with me and explained and set out options in easy to understand terms. This was an area which I’d shied away from dealing with for some time due to the complexities in my mind of how I wanted our company structure to be set out. Amy’s professionalism and manner along with her perseverance helped me navigate through and make decisions easily. I had complete trust in the advice given. Amy is a credit to your firm."
"Amy is, in my eyes, the ultimate professional and goes beyond the ask, always attentive and intuitive to the task in hand and with me that is often very varied. She is also the chicest lawyer I’ve ever met!"
"Amy was closely involved in helping me dispose of my Veterinary Practice and I found her to be very knowledgeable, patient, paid considerable attention to detail and took the time to explain technical notes in terms which I could easily understand. Amy’s task was complicated when my wife became very ill during our negotiations and she never failed to enquire about my wife’s health and welfare. I spent three weeks in the hospital unable to answer my telephone or emails during the day. Very frequently, when I did answer either early in the morning or later in the evening, Amy answered immediately and was obviously still working. Amy is among the few hardworking, knowledgeable, client orientated young professionals I have met in recent years and my only regret is that she is a member of your profession and not mine."
"Amy, your professional ability, skill and judgement is undoubtedly unquestioned but don't underestimate the value of the helpful, determination and perseverance you have in abundance. You're in danger of giving lawyers a good name!"
"Amy Mackenzie has been involved with our business for two years now. Initially she was involved in incorporation discussions for the partnership and subsequently she was our main point of contact for the team at Harper Macleod during the sale of our business. I am sure that many people find that the sale of the business they have worked in for the greater part of their lives causes considerable anxiety. I certainly did. During all the negotiations involved in the sale Amy was professional and on top of the facts as we would have hoped. Further than that however, she was at all times patient, approachable and very prompt. It is was so important to us to be able to ring her whenever we had one of our many queries and receive a lucid reply delivered in terms we could understand. It is the quality of the interface between the client and the service provider that makes the difference between a good and an outstanding professional. In my opinion Amy was outstanding, enhancing the reputation not only of her own firm, but also that of the legal profession."
