This festive period, Scottish law firm Harper Macleod proudly took part in the Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign, making meaningful contributions across both the north and central belt of Scotland. The firm’s collective efforts resulted in more than 100 donations, helping ensure that children, who might otherwise wake up to nothing, experience the joy of receiving a gift on Christmas morning.
The teams at Harper Macleod’s Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh offices came together to make a real difference this Christmas. Their contributions came at a critical time, as demand for assistance has reached record levels this year, with 23,000 applications for help in the East of Scotland alone.
In the Inverness office, colleagues chose to forgo their traditional Secret Santa exchange and instead donate gifts to Cash for Kids Mission Christmas – North Scotland. This region received 3,700 applications for assistance, with 2,300 already honoured, leaving 1,400 still to be fulfilled. Every member of the Inverness team pitched in, collectively contributing around 40 gifts to make a meaningful impact.
The Glasgow and Edinburgh offices also embraced the Christmas spirit of the campaign, contributing 55 donations and demonstrating its commitment to supporting children and families in need.
Applications came from a wide range of sources, including homeless shelters, women’s aid organisations, schools, social workers and other charities, demonstrating the initiative’s wide-reaching impact. Led by a dedicated core team, the campaign relies heavily on the efforts of volunteers and the invaluable support of organisations like Santander, HSBC, and NatWest, making every contribution incredibly valuable.
Karayn Chisholm, Corporate Fundraiser for Cash for Kids, said:
“We are so grateful to Harper Macleod and all organisations who have kindly supported our Mission Christmas campaign this year. All gifts are going to children who would otherwise wake up to nothing on Christmas morning. Families are struggling for many reasons, whether they are living in poverty, are homeless or are fleeing domestic abuse. By supporting Mission Christmas, you are giving these children and their families more than just a gift, you are giving them special memories and a chance to experience the joy that can often be taken for granted. The cash donations we have received will enable us to buy gifts we are currently missing, which is largely for the nine plus age groups. From babies experiencing their first Christmas or children excited for Santa, to the teens feeling the pressure to fit in, all our children and young people deserve to feel thought of and cared for.”
Jenna McLean, a senior associate at Harper Macleod in Glasgow, helped to coordinate the firm’s efforts. She said:
“This has been a profoundly eye-opening experience. We are extremely proud to support such a meaningful cause and are already looking forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come. Looking ahead, we’re aiming to get an even larger team involved next year, potentially spreading the effort across several days to maximise participation and the support we can give to Cash for Kids and the local communities. By working together, Harper Macleod has shown that meaningful contributions can be made to the lives of children and families across Scotland.”
