Housing Associations working with Scottish Government to tackle climate change

Share

Insight

Climate change is something that we all contribute to and most of us can probably do more to tackle.

A large contributor to Scotland’s greenhouse gas emissions is heat from houses which has led to the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) leading a pre-COP26 energy summit, addressed by the Minister for zero carbon buildings.

However, the additional consideration for social landlords in combatting climate change is to ensure that any measures implemented do not result in an increased level of fuel poverty. Sally Thomas, Chief Executive of SFHA said that the increase in fuel prices we have been warned of threatens to increase fuel poverty in Scotland and assured that SFHA will make every effort to achieve net zero carbon in a “fair and just way”.

Scottish Housing Associations are making steps towards a more energy efficient social housing sector for Scotland.

Keeping an eye on progress here may provide us with some cost effective ways of making our own homes more energy efficient.
