The Home Office has this week announced a further extension to the Covid-19 adjustments for employers carrying out right to work checks. These temporary adjustments, which allow employers to check a prospective employee’s right to work remotely, were due to come to an end on 5 April 2022 but will now continue in place until 30 September 2022.
Despite this extension to the concession, employers should note that from 6 April 2022 all biometric card holders will only be able to evidence their right to work using the Home Office online right to work checking service. Employers will no longer be able to accept physical cards for the purposes of a right to work check even if it shows a later expiry date.
