OUR TEAM
Lewis specialises in renewable energy projects and has experience in acting for developers, landowners and funders in relation to large and small scale wind, hydro (run of river and pumped storage), solar PV (ground mounted and rooftop), battery storage and energy from waste developments.
Lewis regularly acts on the acquisition, sale and financing of construction-ready and operational renewable energy developments and has extensive experience in carrying out due diligence and reporting exercises for a variety of clients.
Lewis also has experience in acting for local communities on renewable energy projects and can advise on leasing and purchasing arrangements, obtaining deeds of servitude and wayleaves for overhead and underground grid connection routes and providing reports to funders.
He also acts for a major utility provider advising on land acquisitions and disposals for development sites, cable and pipe deeds of servitude, and title examination and reporting.
After completing his traineeship Lewis undertook a Masters in Environmental Policy at the University of Cambridge. This course analysed the design, implementation and assessment of environmental policy, and has provided Lewis with an in-depth understanding of the legal, economic and political challenges and trends in the renewable energy sector and, in turn, how they may affect the commercial interests of his clients.
Lewis has also spent time acting as an environmental law consultant with ClientEarth, advising on the legal and regulatory issues affecting nature conservation in connection with both Special Areas of Conservation and Special Protection Areas as designated under the EC Habitats and Birds Directives, respectively.
The Legal 500 ranks Lewis as a “Recommended Lawyer” in Energy (excluding oil and gas).
