OUR TEAM
I practice exclusively in the areas of Family and Child Law, in which I have held an interest from the outset of my career. I trained in the largest legal aid provider in Scotland prior to qualifying in 2015 and have a wealth of knowledge in the intricacies of the legal aid system in Scotland and the importance of economic value for clients. The Law Society has accredited me as a specialist in Child Law.
I provide advice on all aspects of family law, including divorce, separation, financial provision and cohabitation, as well as pre and post separation and cohabitation agreements. I have a particular interest in children’s rights and child welfare. I am regularly instructed in cases involving child contact and residence disputes, adoption and permanence and relocation cases as well as advising on the exercise of Parental Rights and Responsibilities. I have experience in acting for parents, as well as extended family members and children themselves.
I approach client cases with professionalism, sensitivity and understanding. I recognise that clients seek a service that offers knowledgeable legal advice paired with economic value. I am fortunate to work in a highly-skilled team which shares an ethos of approaching cases in a collaborative, pragmatic and pro-active manner. Whether the case requires to be litigated, or is capable of resolving by a negotiated settlement, my preference is to employ a robust but solutions-focussed, discrete and client-centric approach to empower clients to achieve an amicable conclusion to their case.
Prior to joining Harper Macleod I enjoyed a busy but varied practice with an emphasis on family and child law. I have appeared regularly in Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland and have a good understanding of the different approaches Courts may take when dealing with client cases as a result.
I am a regular contributor to the Family Law Association Bulletin. I am a committee member of the Family Law Association for Scotland and a legal member for Shared Parenting Scotland, offering a legal insight to service users based on the experiences they share of their own circumstances and cases.
"His meticulous attention to detail and commitment to our case ensured that everything went seamlessly. A huge thank you to Christopher Agnew and everyone involved for their exceptional work. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of a family lawyer who will not only meet but exceed your expectations. My family and I are forever grateful!"
"What truly sets Christopher apart is his dedication and compassion. He treated our case with the utmost importance and care, understanding the emotional weight that comes with such a life-changing event. His support was unwavering, and it was clear that he was genuinely invested in helping our family achieve the best possible outcome. The adoption process can be daunting, but with Christopher by my side, it was as smooth and stress-free as I could have hoped for."
"Christopher was always available to answer my questions and kept me thoroughly updated on every aspect of the case. His communication was impeccable, and I never once felt out of the loop. He made sure I fully understood the legal intricacies involved and provided clear, sound advice that helped guide me through the process with confidence."

"Amanda and Chris went above and beyond to help me during my separation. I can't thank them enough for everything they have done for me."
"Christopher Agnew and his team were very professional in handling a complicated case. They kept me informed all the way through a 3-year roller coaster ride. I always felt like I was in safe hands. A satisfied client."
"Brilliant communication. Very happy with everything."
"What can I say about this firm? I doubt there’s a better firm in Scotland. After a two year custody battle with my ex and winning my case, I’m delighted with every aspect of their work. Chris on the family team was incredible and as an anxious father kept me sane throughout a very difficult process that was extremely stressful and sifted through every piece of evidence and put a case together that eventually won full custody for me. The finite detail and lies had been investigated and the appropriate evidence put together was incredible. The way he managed the case, his dedication, and saw the bigger picture overall and also the support he offered as a sounding board sometimes daily to listen to concerns and address these in a manner that helped was invaluable. I’ll never be able to repay Chris or Harper Macleod. Thank you so much. Can't recommend this firm highly enough, outstanding throughout."
“Chris made what was a difficult and emotional situation, easy to understand and follow through.”
“I have found your firm to be very professional in dealing with my case…Christopher has been exceptionally kind and helpful at all times.”
"Christopher Agnew always answered his phone, and even if he was busy with other clients, never forgot to call back and responded very quickly to emails and gave the best honest advice. Would highly recommend."
